Acanthurus tristis Randall, J.E. 1993. Acanthurus tristis, a valid Indian Ocean surgeonfish (Perciformes: Acanthuridae). Special Publication of the J.L.B. Smith Institute of Ichthyology Rhodes University 54: 1-8 [4, figs 1-3] [name attributed to Tickell in Day 1888, but name listed in synonymy and not an available name, because it was not treated as a valid species until 1993].
Type data:
Holotype BPBM 18802 (designated as a neotype for Acanthurus tristis Tickell), Lively Rocks, Trincomalee, east coast of Sri Lanka.
