Introduction

This species is supposedly uniformly green in life but specimens from Queensland which match the figures of the male genitalia as drawn by Evans (1966) have distinctive reddish longitudinal stripes on the tegmen and pronotum (see image provided here). The species is either variable in colour and widely distributed or the known material includes cryptic species with very similar male genitalia.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: parenchyma feeder.

 

Diagnosis

General coloration green (live specimens), pale yellowish brown (spirit specimens). Face of head yellowish or blackish brown, posterior apex of frontoclypeus pale yellowish. Tegmen pale yellowish hyaline, apically sometimes smoky; veins apically, sometimes pink. Ventral surface (mature specimens) black, the metasternum and seventh and eighth abdominal segments in part whitish. Length ♂ 3.5, ♀ 4.2 mm (Evans 1966).
