- Apogon leptacanthus Bleeker, P. 1856. Achtste bijdrage tot de kennis der ichthyologische fauna van Ternate. Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch Indië 12: 191-210 [204] [derived from the Greek leptos = small + akantha = spine or thorn and latinized to a masculine noun by Bleeker; leptacanthus is the correct spelling; see also Bleeker, 1874].
