Subfamily Xeinostomatinae Tavares, 1992

  • Xeinostomatinae Tavares, 1992 [recte Xeinostominae].

 

Introduction

This subfamily includes the following genera: Xeinostoma Stebbing, 1920; Ketamia Tavares, 1992; and Krangalangia Tavares, 1992. Only the last is known from Australian waters.

 

Diagnosis

With the characteristics of the family. Fronto-orbital width always greater than half maximum breadth of carapace. Pereiopod three with propodus and dactylus bearing two rows of long setae. Female abdomen with six or seven, very narrow and short segments (including telson); first pleopod vestigial, uniramous; pleopods 2–5 laterally articulated at tips of pleomeres, fringed with setae. Male abdomen with five or six segments (including telson). Pereiopods 2–3 with propodus and dactylus bearing two rows of long setae, one ventral, one external. (After Tavares 1992).
