- Vanderhorstia ornatissima Smith, J.L.B. 1959. Gobioid fishes of the families Gobiidae, Periophthalmidae, Trypauchenidae, Taenioididae and Kraemeriidae of the western Indian Ocean. Introduction
Allen & Erdmann (2012) suggested that this species was confined to the western Indian Ocean. However, material from Western Australia and Cocos (Keeling) Islands is closest to V. ornatissima. Records from eastern Australia have been based on other species of uncertain identity.
