Introduction
Trygonorrhina dumerilii has been confused with, and misidentified as, Trygonorrhina fasciata in previous literature. Note that the name Southern Fiddler Ray is the formal standard name associated with Trygonorrhina fasciata, but the species has been split into two species, with Trygonorrhina dumerilii restricted to southern Australia; the name Southern Fiddler Ray is more appropriate for Trygonorrhina dumerilii. Donnellan et al. (2015) found that the Magpie Fiddler Ray, Trygonorrhina melaleuca is just a rare colour variant of Trygonorrhina dumerilii.
