Introduction
Muir (1913) included both Amboina (= Ambon Island, Indonesia) and Cairns (North Queensland) as type localities with his original description of this species. Donaldson (1991) referred to a holotype male from Amboina, but no holotype was designated by Muir. It is unknown how many specimens were available to Muir from each locality but Donaldson's (1991) use of the term "holotype" may constitute a lectotype designation by default. Muir (1913) indicated that his description was based on males by including "(♂)" beside the name of the species above the description. Labels attached to BPBM specimens indicating type status have not been validated by publication as explained by Medler (1987). Donaldson (1991) also recorded the species from Torres Strait and coastal localities south of Cairns.
