Type genus:
Tropidocephala Stål, 1853.
Introduction
Four species of this tribe, representing two genera, are known from Australia. Three of the species are in the nominate genus Tropidocephala and tend to be darkish species with the head extended anteriorly for a greater or lesser distance. The fourth species is the extraordinary Pseudembolophora macleayi Muir from the SW of Western Australia. Further collecting, particularly in the biodiversity hotspot of SW Western Australia, will probably turn up further Australian species of the tribe. The known Australian fauna was revised by Donaldson (1991).
Diagnosis
This tribe is distinguished from other Delphacidae by the structure of the hind tibial spur which is cultrate, solid but with the inner surface concave. The spur is lacking spines along its length but has a single spine mounted at the apex.
