Introduction

This is a common and widespread species frequently collected at lights. It is often bright pinkish red but, particularly in males, may have brown speckling.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Rufa, subtus albida; abdomen vitta tenui dorsali nigra; pedes rufi; femoribus basi albidis; alae anticae margine postico vitreo subcinereo; posticae albido-vitreae. Red, whitish beneath. Abdomen somewhat paler, with a slight black dorsal stripe which does not extend to the tip. Legs red; femora whitish towards the base. Fore wings red, vitreous and slightly grayish along the hind border. Hind wings whitish vitreous; veins black, pale red in front. Length of the body 3 lines; of the wings 7 lines (Walker 1858).
