Introduction

This species is distinctive in its almost entirely black coloration. it was described from Blunder, near Ravenshoe, North Queensland but has also been collected at Scheyville, in the Sydney basin of New South Wales. Its distribution along the eastern coast of mainland Australia is probably quite extensive.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

General coloration black. Head entirely black but for the eyes which are dark brown and the ocelli which are whitish. Pronotum and scutellum black. Tegmen black with numerous small white spots on the proximal half and somewhat larger white spots distally. The two spotted area are not adjacent to each other but are separated by a black transverse area. Appendix and supplementary appendix opaque brown. Thorax ventral surface and legs black. Abdomen ventral surface greyish black. Length 2.8 mm (Evans 1937)
