Introduction
We follow Santini et al. (2013) in recognising the family, rather than a subfamily as treated by Nelson (2006). The family contains six genera and 13 species, with all genera and nine species known from Australia. Except for Kentrocapros, the genera are confined to the south-west Pacific, primarily in Australia. The species are typically found close to the bottom over the continental shelf and slope. Most species are treated in Kuiter (1993) and Matsuura (2008).
