Ecological Descriptors

Adult: diurnal, florivore (associated flora: Melaleuca uncinata R.Br. [MYRTACEAE] Broombush (on flowers); Eucalyptus foecunda Schauer, 1844 [MYRTACEAE] Fremantle Mallee, Narrow-Leaved Red Mallee (on flowers); Melaleuca pauperiflora F.Muell. [MYRTACEAE] (on flowers)), volant.

Larva: wood-borer (associated flora: Eucalyptus foecunda Schauer, 1844 [MYRTACEAE] Fremantle Mallee, Narrow-Leaved Red Mallee; Eucalyptus oleosa F.Muell. ex. Miq. [MYRTACEAE] Giant Mallee; Eucalyptus sp. [MYRTACEAE] Gum Tree; Eucalyptus gracilis F.Muell., 1855 [MYRTACEAE] Red Mallee, Yorrell; Casuarina sp. [CASUARINACEAE] She-Oak; Melaleuca uncinata [MYRTACEAE]).

Extra Ecological Information

French (1911) recorded this species breeding in Casuarina and Eucalyptus, Hawkeswood (1980) recorded this species feeding on nectar and pollen of Melaleuca sp., Hawkeswood & Peterson (1982) recorded this species emerging from an unidentified mallee, Eucalyptus sp., and Hawkeswood (1988) cited French's (1911) illustration of a larva in Melaleuca uncinata. Hawkeswood & Knowles (1985) recorded possible predation of this species by the Western Magpie, Gymnorhina dorsalis.
