Introduction

This species was introduced to Queensland from Mexico in 1985-6 for the control of parthenium weed, Parthenium hysterophorus L. (Asteraceae) on which it failed to establish. It was also released in SE Queensland on annual ragweed, Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (Asteraceae), on which it apparently established (McFadyen 1992). Whether it is still present in SE Queensland is unknown. There are specimens in QDPI collection from the Brisbane area in 1992.
