Introduction

This Nearctic / Central American genus was added to the Australian fauna through the introduction of S. concinna as a biological control agent against parthenium weed in Queensland.

Diagnosis

"Caput thorace nonnihil angustius, truncatum; vertice transverso; fronte elongata, subparallela, marginibus carinatis, medio carina percurrente, basi ipsa furcata instructa; genis obliquis, triangularibus, haud parallelis; clypeo tricarinato. Antennae compressae, capiti tranverso cum oculis vix aequilongae, articulo uiltimo penultimo longiore. Thorax brevis, postice late emarginatus, tricarinatus, carinis lateralibus posterius leviter divergentibus. Tegmina abdomen multo superantia. Tibiae posticae bispinosae" (Stål 1859)
In the American Stobaera the head is distinctly narrower than the pronotum and the pygophor has no spines on the ventral margin in the male. (Kirkaldy 1907)
Stobaera has the spur of Alohini (Muir 1926) which is cultrate, solid, both surfaces convex, distinct teeth along the hind edge (Muir 1915).
