Boot Reef, northeast of Cape York, QLD (9°58'S, 144°42'E) to Sydney, NSW (33°50'S, 151°17'E) with juveniles as far south as Montague Island, NSW (36°15'S, 150°14'E), also Lihou Reefs (17°21'S, 151°46'E) and Coringa-Herald Reefs (ca. 17°05'S, 149°50'E), Coral Sea, and Elizabeth Reef (29°56'S, 159°01'E) and Lord Howe Island (31°35'S, 159°05'E), Tasman Sea, NSW; tropical, south-west Pacific.
