Widespread throughout indo-Pacific including Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines, New Caledonia, Malaysa, Seychelles, Maldives, Madagascar, Mozambique, Gulf of Aden and the Gulf of Oman. Distribution also includes Melville Island, Northern Territory, Australia.

Bathymetric range: intertidal to 350 m depth. Reported from 350 m, but in Australia recorded from less than 60 m over mud bottom.
