Introduction
According to Torigoe (2004) and Huber (2010) this taxon is restricted to the Atlantic and West Indian Ocean. However, no molecular substanciation to this claim is available and while hypotheses exist regarding the type materials geographical origins, it is premature to collapse the Australia material identified as S. cucullata to misidentified material of other taxa.
Distribution
States
Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia
Extra Distribution Information
Might cover the entire Tropical Indo-West Pacific. However, a revision of the taxon is needed. Australian distribution was extensively revised by Lam & Morton (2006: p. 244)
IMCRA
Northern Shelf Province (25), Northwest Shelf Transition (26), Northwest Shelf Province (27), Central Western Shelf Transition (28), Central Western Shelf Province (29), Southwest Shelf Transition (30), Southwest Shelf Province (31), Northeast Shelf Province (40), Northeast Shelf Transition (41)
Ecological Descriptors
Intertidal, marine, subtidal.
Extra Ecological Information
Habitat:mangrove, rocky shore; substrate:rocks.
