Family SYMPHYSANODONTIDAE
Slopefishes
Compiler and date details
18 December 2011 - Douglass F. Hoese
Introduction
The family contains a single genus and 10 species, one known from Australia (Anderson & Springer, 2005). The genus was placed in the Acropomatidae by Nelson (2006). We follow Anderson & Springer (2005), who placed the genus in a separate family because a number of features do not allow placement with any other known family. The group occurs worldwide with species normally found over deeper parts of the continental slope and upper continental shelf.
