Extra Distribution Information

Patchily distributed in the Yarra, Maribyrnong and Werribee rivers and Lake Eildon, Burrumbeet and Purrumbete River system, and more recently in the Barwon, Bunyip, Goulburn and Loddon systems, VIC; recorded from the River Murray, NSW and coastal drainages of southern NSW; temperate. Although Rowe et al. (2008) report the species from Port Stephens, NSW, this record dates back to 1905 and the species does not occur in that area. Originally introduced during the 1860's-1880's by acclimatisation societies to TAS, and from there to VIC, NSW and WA. The species subsequently died out in WA.

Introduced from Europe.
