Genus Rhabdosargus Fowler, 1933
- Rhabdosargus Fowler, H.W. 1933. Contributions to the biology of the Philippine Archipelago and adjacent regions. The fishes of the families Banjosidae, Lethrinidae, Sparidae, Girellidae, Kyphosidae, Oplegnathidae, Gerridae, Mullidae, Emmelichthyidae, Sciaenidae, Sillaginidae, Arripidae, and Enoplosidae collected by the United States Bureau of Fisheries steamer Albatross, chiefly in Philippine Seas and adjacent waters. Bulletin of the United States National Museum 100(12): 1-465 figs 1-31 [175, 178] [as a subgenus of Diplodus Rafinesque, 1810].
Type species:
Sargus auriventris Peters, 1855 (= Rhabdosargus sarba (Forsskål, 1775)) by original designation.
Introduction
The genus was recently revised by Tanaka & Iwatsuki (2013) recognising 6 species. Currently only a single species is known from Australia.
