Introduction
As discussed at http://www1.dpi.nsw.gov.au/keys/fulgor/fulgorid/index.html, the date of first publication of this species has been confused in the literature. Metcalf (1947) gave 1839 in Trans. Linn. Soc. London volume 18 and Lallemand (1963) gave 1841 for that volume. However, Lallemand (1963) also gave 1838 in Ann. Soc. Ent. France as an earlier description of the species which was a report of Westwood's presentation to the Linnaean Society of London including all his descriptions of new species with their type localities.
Lallemand (1963) recognised two subspecies but these were listed as synonyms by Nagai & Porion (1996). Their status needs to be evaluated after an examination of the male genitalia which does not appear to have been undertaken.
