Subfamily Amyclinae Metcalf, 1938

Compiler and date details

27 January 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Two Australian genera are described in this subfamily of Fulgoridae. Both are currently monotypic but both species comprise two or more subspecies which were regarded as separate species by Distant (1906) and Metcalf (1947). The subspecies need to be examined to determine their true status and there are certainly additional forms in collections which may represent additional undescribed taxa. The Amyclinae are characterised by the head which extends out in front of the eyes as a long narrow process.

Diagnosis

In this subfamily, the head is produced but there is no carina in front of eyes and no groove between forehead and crown (Metcalf 1938).
