Introduction

McKay (1984) reported that there were self-maintaining populations of Puntius conchonius in Norman Creek, Brisbane, Queensland from 1970 until 1984, and Brumley (1996) reported that the Queensland population had died out. Corfield et al. (2008) however, reported that Puntius conchonius was known from streams in and south of Brisbane, Queensland and the Margaret River area, Western Australia. P. conchonius has also been found in Jingarmup Brook near Eagle Bay, Cape Naturaliste, Western Australia (Beatty et al. 2006).

Introduced to fresh waters of Brisbane area, QLD (27º28´S), and Jingarmup Brook near Eagle Bay, Cape Naturaliste, WA (33º34'S) (may no longer be in the wild in QLD); tropical, widely circulated as an aquarium fish.
