- Prosops Buckton, G.B. in French, C. 1893. Notes on a new Victorian injurious insect (with description by G.B. Buckton, F.R.S.). Victorian Naturalist 9: 48-50 [49].
Type species:
Prosops pedisequus Buckton, 1893 by monotypy.
Introduction
This genus was regarded as a nomen dubium by Löcker et.al. (2006), although they stated that Prosops closely resembles Ozoliarus Löcker in having 3 lateral spines and 6 large apical teeth on the hind tibia and 7 apical teeth on the first and second tarsomere, and this may indicate that Prosops is a senior synonym of Ozoliarus. The syntype series of P. pedisequus consists of three females mounted on a glass slide and the carination of the head is obscured.

Diagnosis
Prosops differs from Cordoliarus in the shape of the head, from Oteana in the presence of 7 apical teeth on the 2nd tarsomere, from Oliarus in the presence of three lateral spines on the hind tibia and 7 apical teeth on the 2nd tarsomere, and from species of Miclucha in the number of apical teeth on the hind legs/and or shape of the areolets. Prosops cannot be differentiated from Ozoliarus without removing the syntype females of P. pedisequus from the slide on which they are mounted.
