Introduction

The species was first introduced into Tasmania in 1862, then Victoria in 1868 and Western Australia in 1892 (Arthington & McKenzie 1997). It has subsequently spread through most of the southern rivers. Impacts are summarised in Arthington & McKenzie (1997) and Corfield et al. (2008). Although introduced into Queensland in 1889, it is apparently no longer established there (Grant 2002).
