Introduction
This genus was recently split into several subgenera with molecular foundations by Yang et al. (2023), and taxonomic acts by Chan (2023).

Extra Distribution Information
Indo-Pacific and west Atlantic Oceans. Morgan (2001) reports a Penaeus sp. from Christmas I.
