Introduction
Kuiter (2010) treated this species as restricted to the east-Indo-west-central Pacific, being replaced in the Indian Ocean west of Java by H. semidiscus. Randall (2005) regarded the species as widespread from the Red Sea to the central Pacific, with H. semidiscus as a junior synonym.
