Species Oxyeleotris selheimi (Macleay, 1884)

Blackbanded Gudgeon, Black Banded Guavina, Black-banded Gudgeon, Giant Gudgeon, Sleeper, Sleeper Gudgeon, Sleepy Cod

Introduction

Frequently misidentified as Oxyeleotris lineolatus or O. herwerdenii, the latter often considered restricted to Papua New Guinea but considered to be a junior synonym of O. selheimi by some authors (e.g. Allen et al. 2002). Examination of type material indicates that Eleotris herwerdenii is a synonym of O. lineolata.
