Miscellaneous Literature Names
- Oxyeleotris lineolata [authors of incorrectly treat the species name as an adjective].
Introduction
Frequently misidentified as O. herwerdenii, considered to be a junior synonym of O. selheimi by some authors (e.g. Allen et al. 2002). However examination of types suggested that the species is a synonym of O. lineolata, based on the striped form. The stripe can be turned on and off in life. Genetic studies also indicate that O lineolata also is known from southern New Guinea.
Distribution
States
Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia
Extra Distribution Information
Durack River, WA (127°12'E) to Noosa, QLD (26°30'S), records to the west of Durack River are O. selheimi (see Morgan et al. 2011), translocations have modified the distribution (see Pusey et al. (2004); tropical, New Guinea.
