- Apogon monospilus Fraser, T.H., Randall, J.E. & Allen, G.R. 2002. Clarification of the cardinalfishes (Apogonidae) previously confused with Apogon moluccensis Valenciennes, with a description of a related new species. The Raffles Bulletin of Zoology 50(1): 175-184 [182, fig. 1A-C] [derived from the Greek mono = one and the noun spilos = spot; stated to be a noun in apposition].
