Introduction
Kottelat (2013) treated the species as Ophiocara ophicephala Valenciennes, 1837, with Günther (1861) acting as first reviser. Both species were described in the same publication. Keith & Mennesson (2021) have shown that the name Ophiocara porocephala applies only to the Indian Ocean records.
