Introduction

This species, which is found in and around Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory, is grouped with O. acuminatus Muir as the "acuminatus group" based on the following shared features: fork of Pcu+A1 distinctly basad of centre of clavus; aedeagus configuration (i.e. with a long spine arising right lateral near apex, passing the phallotheca ventrally, crossing over to the dorsal side apically).

Ecological Descriptors

Adult: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Colour. Body dark brown to black, carinae and pronotum paler; legs light brown; forewing hyaline white with brown marks along crossveins, veins light brown, apically darker, tubercles dark brown (contrasting with veins), pterostigma mid brown; abdominal sternites light to dark brown. Morphology. Body length: ♂ 4.5–4.8 mm, } 4.7–4.8 mm. Head: Vertex (total length) 1.7–2.1 times longer than wide; basal emargination rectangular. Postclypeus with well-developed median carina. Rostrum not reaching hind coxae. Thorax: Hind margin of pronotum obtusely angled. Mesonotum with well-developed carinae. Forewing 3.2–3.5 times longer than wide; costa without tubercles; 8 apical cells. Male genitalia: Aedeagus: Phallotheca with a long spine curved as in O. acuminatus; a moderately curved spine with very large globular base; and two dorsal spines as in O. acuminatus. Flagellum membranous, unarmed. (Löcker et al. 2006)
