Diagnosis
Ocyropsis with stomodaeum deeply indented in an hourglass shape; tentacular canals and reduced tentacular canals are present; substomodael comb rows extend aborally almost to the statocyst; typically with large diffuse dark spots on the lobes.

Notes
The name Ocyropsis maculata was not used by Rang (1828); he used the name Ocyroe tachee for his species with two large brown spots from the Antilles. The name was later changed by Lesson (1843) to O. maculata, although this name is almost always attributed to Rang.
