Compiler and date details
30 April 2007 - Lisa-ann Gershwin
Introduction
The name Tentaculata was first used by Eschscholtz (1825: 742) as Beroidae tentaculatae, in exclusion of the Beroidae cavae (Beroe and Neis) and the Beroe lobatae (the lobates). Eschscholtz specifically included the genera "Beroe" (as he understood it) and Cestum.
Today, the Tentaculata is recognised at the class level, including all ctenophoran taxa except Beroe and Neis, which are grouped under the class Nuda.
Diagnosis
Ctenophora with tentacles and tentacle bulbs present.
