Diagnosis
The females are very readily distinguished from [australiensis] without dissection; the long valvulae are most conspicuous. The possession of two pairs of elongate valvulae is apparently exceptional in the Meenoplidae. The males can also be identified without dissection by their harpagones (as seen from behind) being apposed throughout their length, whereas in [australiensis] they are outwardly curved and widely separated for the greater part of their length, converging only apically. In addition, as noted by Kirkaldy (1906), grandiceps is larger and has the lateral carinae of the vertex higher (Woodward 1957).
Note that there is at least one undescribed species of the genus and figures of the male genitalia of both described Australian species provided by Woodward (1957) should be examined to confirm identifications.
