Holotype CSIRO H 7016-01 ♂, 36-38m depth, southwest of Weipa, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland [12°53.96' S, 141°12.71' E].
Paratype(s) CSIRO numerous ♂ and ♀, various including Port Hedland, WA, Weipa, Qld, Torres Strait, Wessel Islands, NT.

Introduction
The species has been confused with Neotrygon kuhlii. Because of that, the standard name and FAO name Bluespotted Maskray for that species, should be probably amended to Australian Bluespotted Maskray.
