Introduction
A well known and distinctive species of leafhopper on eucalypts in a wide band of eastern Australia from SE Queensland to Tasmania. The male tends to be darker than the females with the legs more obviously yellow in contrast to the otherwise dark colouring.

Diagnosis
Niger, dimidio apicali femorum anticorum et mediorum, tibiis tarsisque anticis et mediis, femoribus, tibiis tarsisque fere totis pedum posticorum flavis, tegminibus flavescente-fuscis, parte apicali venisque valde obscurioribus, et maculis binis sordide albidis ornatis, altera ad marginem exteriorem aliquanto pone medium, altera ad marginem interiorem prope apicem clavi positis, alis fuscescentibus, fere opacis. Mas segmento ventrali ultimo fere dimidio longiore quam penultimo, apice subrotundato-truncato. Femina ignota. ♂ long. corp. 5.5 mill., long. corp. c. tegm. 7 mill., lat. 2.5 mill. (Spångberg 1878).
Coloration variable, ranging from yellow to dark brown or black. Male usually considerably darker than female. Face golden yellow, buff, dark brown or black; muscle impressions on postclypeus prominent. Pronotum ochreous to black with pale areas behind the eyes. Scutellum concolorous with pronotum, sometimes apically pale. Tegmen hyaline brown, apically smoky with pale areas at apex of clavus and between veins R1a and R1b; veins dark brown, marginal vein apically whitish. Length ♂ 6–6.8 mm; ♀ 6.2–7.2 mm (Evans 1981).
