Genus Myxus Günther, 1861
Type species:
Myxus elongatus Günther, 1861 by subsequent designation, see Jordan, D.S. 1919. The genera of fishes. Part 3. Stanford University Publications, University Series 39: 285-410 [307].
Introduction
Thomson (1997) included Mugil capensis from South Africa in this genus, but more recently Durand et al. (2012) separated that species into the genus Pseudomugil. Thomson (1997) also included Trahcystoma petardi in Myxus.
