Introduction

This species has been found in Queensland, where it is distributed in coastal regions from the gulf country to the northern reaches of the south brigalow belt, with a single record from Daly River in the Northern Territory. The name derives from the dark coloration of the face.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: grassland, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

This species is close to M. carolae Fletcher, differing in the disposition of the preapical processes of the aedeagus and in the dark coloration of the postclypeus, anteclypeus and ventral plates of the thorax. Like M. carolae, the tegmina are uniformly pale greenish yellow with the venation obscure (Fletcher 2000).
