Introduction

This species is known from two widely separated localities, one in the Central Kimberley of NW Western Australia and the other in SE Queensland. The name reflects its similarity to Mayawa facialis Fletcher which is also widely distributed from inland Queensland to the Northern Territory but not sympatric with M. affinifacialis.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: grassland, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

This species closely resembles M. facialis Fletcher but differs in having the face relatively pale, without dark brown pigmentation, the male style apophysis thinner and more elongated, and the gonopore of the aedeagus arising farther from the apex (Dietrich 2021)
