Genus Mapochiella Evans, 1966

Compiler and date details

1 July 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Whether this genus is valid or just an extreme version of Paradorydium Kirkaldy needs to be tested using molecular methodologies. Both described species were based on material from southeastern Queensland. However, there are specimens of the genus from parts of the Northern Territory and Western Australia which may be undescribed or all forms may be one species that varies in the degree of expansion of the anterior part of the head.

Diagnosis

The sides of the crown of the head are parallel with each other for at least the basal two thirds. On the face of the head there is a sharply defined median carina and a prominent median longitudinal ridge on the crown. The veins of the tegmen are raised in relief and the crossvein Rs, which links R with M, is present. Mapochiella differs from Paradorydium in having a wide parallel-sided crown (Evans 1966).
