Subtribe Paradorydiina Evans, 1937

Compiler and date details

1 July 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

The Paradorydiina are well represented in Australia with seven species of Paradorydium Kirkaldy and two of Mapochiella Evans. The species are all elongate seed mimics, lacking hind wings.

Diagnosis

The narrowly elongated head and tegmina of the insects in the Paradorydiina make this group easily differentiated from all other Australian leafhoppers except the similarly narrow Cephalelini (Ulopinae). These two groups can be differentiated by the presence of well developed antennal ledges in Cephalelini, these being absent from Paradorydiina.
