Introduction
Many other species of Bathygobius are misidentified as this species and the distribution of this species is not as widespread as records would indicate. Records from Micronesia appear to be based on misidentified Bathygobius coalitus.

Seale Island, WA (28°30'S) to Minnie Water, NSW (29°50'S); tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific (east to Tonga, but absent from atolls of Pacific Plate).
