Introduction

This is the only Australian species of Macropsis placed to subgenus by Hamilton (1980). It is only known from the type locality on Cape York Peninsula, North Queensland.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Golden orange, basal third of tegmina lemon yellow; tegmina traversed by two whitish hyaline bands. Head as in M. gressitti [Hamilton], but face minutely punctured, striae obscure and arcuate, lora distinct, not narrowed by lobes of frons, ocelli only slightly closer to eyes than to midline of face. Pronotum as in gressitti but striae fine, posteriorly transverse, median carina faintly indicated anteriorly, obsolete posteriorly. Tegmina with three anteapical cells. Hind tibiae each armed with seven stout lateral macrosetae mounted on enlarged bases. Female genitalia: seventh sternite 1/3 longer than preceding sternum, transverse, bearing two shallow lobes either side of shallow median excavation. Length ♀ 3.7 mm (Hamilton 1980).
