Introduction
The species is listed as Vulnerable under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. In Victoria the species is listed on the Threatened Species List under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988. In 1996 it was listed as Critically Endangered by International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

Extra Distribution Information
Once found throughout the Murray-Darling system, the Murray Cod is now uncommon and more restricted to the lower Murray-Darling system to SA. Introductions to south-western WA were unsuccessful, as well as those into the Cooper Creek catchment in the Lake Eyre Basin. However, at least one population has established in a dam on the east coast, and here the Murray Cod hybridises with Maccullochella macquariensis; it also hybridizes in the Murray River. Temperate
