Suborder MURAENOIDEI
Compiler and date details
3 October 2018 - Dianne J. Bray & Douglass F. Hoese
Introduction
The suborder as treated here follows Wiley & Johnson (2010) and Nelson (2006). Nelson included three families in the suborder Muraenidae, Chlopsidae and Myrocongridae. Nelson et al (2016) separated the Chlopsidae into a separate suborder, and recognised the Muraenoidei as containing the Muraenidae, Myrocongridae and Heterenchelyidae. That placement follows Johnson et al (2011, 2012) and Santini et al (2013).
