Introduction
Currently, three genera and eight species are recognised for the Moronidae, most from fresh waters of North America and Europe. A single species is known from Australia, presumably an accidental introduction. Johnson (1984) separated this group from the Percichthyidae. Lateolabrax was separated into its own family, the Lateolabracidae, by Springer & Raasch (1995), but Nelson (2006) provisionally retained the Lateolabrax in Moronidae.
