Introduction

This species was recorded from "New South Wales" in the 19th Century but Kirkaldy (1906) recorded Philadelphia pandani Kirkaldy from Cairns in the wet tropics of North Queensland. It is probable that the original material of the species, which was collected by Joseph Banks in 1770, was also collected from North Queensland. Van Stalle (1992) extended the distribution of the species to the Northern Territory and also recorded it from New Guinea.
