Tribe Zoraidini Muir, 1913

Compiler and date details

18 January 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Muir (1913) noted "It is among the Zoraida section that the most conspicuous forms of the family are to be found, and from whence the forms generally chosen to illustrate the family are taken." This tribe includes the largest derbids with elongate forewings held above the body at about 45ΒΊ. This group also includes some pest species, including Proutista moesta (Westwood) which transmits a phytoplasma of palms in the Oriental region.

Diagnosis

The Zoraida subgroup also has very small wings with large anal areas, devoted to sound production, but never so greatly reduced as in the Sikiana section (Muir 1913).

Stridulatory plate with convex external margin; clavus open; margins of eyes not close to epistomal suture (Emeljanov 1996).
