Introduction

This is a reasonably common and distinctive species with the tegmen veins usually, but not always, coloured red. It is distributed around the southeastern regions of mainland Australia from SE Queensland to the SE corner of South Australia.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder (associated flora: Eucalyptus amygdalina Labill., 1806 [MYRTACEAE] Black Peppermint; Eucalyptus blakelyi Maiden, 1917 [MYRTACEAE] Blakely's Red Gum).

 

Diagnosis

Head, pronotum and scute!lum pale castaneous, freckled with yellow. Clypeus, lorae and underside yellow; tibiae and tarsi more or less castaneous. Tegmina subhyaline yellowish, the cells more or less obscurely clouded with brownish, veins sanguineous, also most of clavus. Wings smoky, veins black. Fetnale: Last segment notched sublaterally; pygofers elongate. Length: 5¾ mill. (Kirkaldy 1906).
